Chometz Free Pesach

From the Memoirs of Rav Moshe FhimaPesach

At 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Chol Hamoed, the boys and staff of Pinsk's Bais Aharon Boys School, were sitting in Rabbi Fima's office.  They had just completed a beautiful Chol Hamoed outing, and were beginning to plan the next day’s trip. The phone on Rabbi Moshe Fima's desk rang....

Volody, who was drafted into the Belarusian army just  a year and a half ago, and has had little affiliation and limited knowledge of our rich Jewish heritage, was on the line with a  dilemma. Volody has just received a parcel containing homemade strawberry jam, from his mother and called to ask .  “Can the jam be eaten on Pesach?”!

A puzzled expression crossed Moshe Fima’s face.  “What were you eating until now?”,  he asked in bewilderment.  The innocent reply was, ”Well, since the beginning of Passover, I’ve been eating just matzo and drinking tea”
