A Summer of Fun
A student's introduction to Yiddishkeit is usually at a summer camp. Yad Yisroel in Pinsk has organized action-packed, fun and educational summer camps. These camps both provide a sensational atmophere for the students to relax from their studies as well as being an eye opener for new youth who want to see what we have to offer.
To date these camps have been situated in Belarus with special trips to Russia, Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania. The girls camp has even been privilaged with a camp in Italy.
Jewish Education
Throughout the camp the staff organize programmes to teach about basic mitzvos; Tzitzit, Tefillin, Tefillah and Shabbos. The children are taught in a way that doesn't tamper with but adds to the camp spirit. There are occasional shiurim given by our Rebbis who try to both entertain as well as convey a solid message. These are followed by voluntary sessions where the children can have their hashkafa questions answered. Overall the children are given a broard picture of what Yiddishkeit is and how it will affect their lives. So far this has been the most effective way of bringing children to the schools.
A Breath of Fresh Air
The camps are also a place for children from troublesome homes to relax and recuperate. Daily activities and sports are kept to an action packed schedule. The fresh air and warm atmosphere has done wonders for these children. The foreign bochurim add a quality to the camps with their layed back attitude and attentive nature. The children are really nurtured. There are many stories of bonds being made between bochurim and children that last throughout the year and lead to these children undertaking brissim, bar mitzvas or joining the school.
