Sponsor a Meal

Yad Yisroel established the Sponsor a Meal Foundation to provide meals to Holocaust survivors, the elderly and impoverished Jews throughout Belarus.

Together, we can fight the hunger of impoverished Jews in the Former Soviet Union.

One meal at a time.

The Sponsor a Meal Foundation delivers or funds over 700 meals a day to Jews, especially Holocaust survivors and the elderly in Pinsk, Minsk, Rechitza, Gomel, Moghilov, Lida, Orsha, Kalinkovich, Bobruisk and other smaller cities.

This is the only substantial hot meal these people receive each day.

The demand is great and there is a long waiting list. We desperately need more funds.

The Reality in Belarus

Imagine not being able to sleep due to the gnawing pain of hunger.

Imagine living in poverty and not being able to put bread on the table even though you are working.

Imagine receiving a pension that has lost 85% of its buying value.

Belarus is a country which was devastated by an economic crisis in June 2011 when the artificially raised local currency crashed – the banks had no dollars to sell and the exchange rate rose to over 9,000 rubles to the dollar. As a result of the severe economic crisis in June 2011, Yad Yisroel expanded its soup kitchen that has been operating in Pinsk since 2001.

In the second half of December 2014 a financial crisis once again broke out in Belarus, reaching its peak on December 19, 2014. The interventions which the Belarusian government made in order to prevent the financial market from collapsing once again led to the staggered devaluation of the Belarusian ruble by over 30%. After this new crisis many more people began asking for help.

Unfortunately, this unstable economic situation is still the daily reality of many disadvantaged families.

Due to COVID-19 in March 2020, many people have lost their jobs, businesses have closed and many families have lost their loved ones, or they have been sick or in isolation. This has had an enormous effect on the entire population, including many of the 60,000 Jews living today in Belarus.

We know that you feel grateful for everything you have in your life, especially having enough food to eat.

Please take a moment and remember the Jews in Belarus with sincere compassion.

It is truly a matter of life or death.

For only a few dollars a day we cannot afford to lose a Jewish soul.

WE are determined to save Jews from hunger.

TOGETHER we MUST join hands to secure their survival.

YOU can make this happen!!

Whoever preserves a single soul, it is as though he has preserved a whole world.
